Here’s an update for my current painting. I have come up with a name for it … Chateau Bleu. 🙂 The transom above the door is done. I changed the plaque from a single large fleur de lis to three small ones. The door still needs a lot more work. I love working with red. It’s sensual. See, red is translucent, you have to build the color in layers, drawing the color out, intensifying it. And it matters what’s behind it too. Red looks very different when built up from a white background than it does on a dark one. I almost always choose a darker red, a burgundy or a Tuscan, to build from. It feels like pulling the lighter tints of red from the darker.
